The Salesforce Foundation is based on a simple idea: leverage 1% of the company’s product, equity and time to improve communities around the world. Salesforce calls this approach the 1-1-1 model. Created in 1999 by Marc Beniof, CEO of Salesforce, soon after Salesforce.Com creation. This new approach at the time embedded philanthropy & charitable giving into Salesforce DNA right from the beginning.

The idea was to disrupt financial charity from companies; even though Salesforce.Com was a young start up at the time, Benioff wanted his company to be the first to offer this revolutionary web-based software technology to the world. The company would offer this new technology through a subscription model not used before in the software sector and philanthropy would be erected as a pillar of the company. This model has since inspired other large organizations throughout the world.

Since its inception in 2000 the Salesforce Foundation has provided over $100 million in grants to support hundreds of organizations. The Salesforce Foundation is providing funding to Education and STEM programs, Workforce Development, Technology Innovation and Employee Inspired Giving.
